what sushi should i get?

my friend recommended me this place and i am a real beginner to sushi. I only know the basics of sushi, maki, sashimi etc…

what do you think sounds good/would you recommend for a beginner to sushi like me to try

heres the menu:

I have only had california rolls, salmon, bass, and a couple others once. It was good. I’m looking for something that will taste amazing though. Like something that I would want to order over and over

My friend recommended eel, so im putting that on the list
i will most likely be going during lunch

Love sushi but not a huge fan of California roll which is Americanized sushi. As for eel, you may not like its more chewy, rubbery texture, especially considering what you’ve already tried…salmon & bass are a far cry from eel. I would also stay away from octopus as the rubbery texture along with the suction cups on the tentacles are literally tough to take.

Of the restaurant menus you’ve provided, the lunch menu is pretty limiting. Plus it seems as though you’ve already tried everything on it. The dinner menu is much more interesting.

Although my favorites are anything with salmon, smoked salmon, salmon roe, scallops, tuna, avocado, asparagus, cucumber, from the dinner menu I would highly recommend the following:

**Sushi & Sashimi**
Baked Egg
Anything with Crab (not Crab stick which is imitation crab)
Salmon & Salmon Roe & Smoked Salmon
Scallops:)
Shrimp
Spicy Tuna
Tuna
Yellowtail

**Maki**
Avocado
Avocado & Cucumber
Cucumber
Salmon
Salmon Avocado
Salmon Cucumber
Spicy Salmon
Salmon Skin Cucumber
Smoked Salmon
Shrimp Avocado
Shrimp Cucumber
Tuna
Tuna Scallion
Tuna Avocado
Tuna Cucumber
Spicy Tuna
Vege Combo
Yellowtail
Yellowtail Scallion
YellowtaIL Cucumber
Yellowtail Avocado
Spicy Yellowtail

**Special Maki**
Alaskan
American Bay
Boston
California
Spicy California
Futo
*Hawaian Bowl
Henry’s
*Johnny’s
*Bob’s
Mark’s
*N.H.
*Rainbow
Renee’s
Tempura
*Vege Dynamite

If you’re interested in trying a couple of very good Korean dishes, Bibimbap & Bulgoki are excelent choices.

Sounds like a great place. Let your tastebuds have fun!

Should I get a thick or thin bamboo mat to make California sushi rolls?

I recently learned how to make homemade California Sushi Rolls and I am going to go buy some supplies. However, I don’t know if I should get a thin bamboo mat or a thick bamboo mat to roll these. Can anyone help with this? Thanks in advance!

the first time i ever made sushi, i bought a kit, where they supplied a thin bamboo mat, i thought that was good. but then i got a job at a local sushi bar and they used the bigger mats and i found them being a lot more comfortable, because the smaller ones are quiet flexible and pretty hard to handle, especially for beginners.
